My Betta has Dropsy

Question
I have a betta in a 2 gal. filtered aquarium. He has had dropsy for a couple of months, his stomach is outrageouslly big. I have treated him with Betta Fix, Maracyn-two, and an antibacterial food. Nothing seems to help him, he is at the top and sometimes at the bottom of his tank. He is still eating, i'm not sure if he's past fixing or not. Can you suggest a medicine that would work, or do you think i should euthenize him? This is my last resort I love spike to death, and i really want to help him. Can you suggest something?

      thank you,

Answer
You should be treating him with Tetracycline. Dropsy is pretty hard to cure though, so the fact that he has lived this long means you must have been trying very hard. Switch over his medication, add some aquarium salt, and keep his water very clean. Best of luck to Spike.
