Brian.

ANSWER: Brian,        Your goldfish will eat anything like larva. So if they aren't eating this it sounds like you have abit of a parasite problem. Sound like fluke worm. Your Goldies are hardy so we are going to take care of this simple and painless. Real quick did you recently introduce anything new to your tank like a rock from outside or anything. If you did take it out and boil it for about 20 minutes. In the mean time go to the pet shop and get something called coppersafe its been a trusted parasite medication forever and I swear by it. You do not have to remove your filter carbon like other meds and its a one dose deal. I think it is 1 tspn per ten gallons. It is mineral based so will stay in your water for about 30 days so it will follow thew life span of the parasite. Depending on the size of your tank and how often you clean make sure you add more coppersafe for whatever amount of water removed for thirty days. That is the only to remove this medication from your tank is water changes. That should take care of them try to do as few water changes as you can for at least three to four weeks. Then a big one. That should take care of that. Remember the bigger the tank the better for these guys they can get VERY large and can live for ten yrs or more.....if kept in the right conditions. Oh and you will notice the food you feed is vitamin C enriched. This is because in captivity they tend to suffer from vitamin C defficiency so while you getting the coppersafe grab a veggie clip its a plastic clip with a suction cup and give them a slice of orange a couple times a week pulp out after this parasite problem is finished they will love you for it., Good Luck, Tina

QUESTION: I have a 2 feet sized fish tank(not sure how many gallons)for more than 1 year now....there is a lionhead gold fish and another type of goldfish inside.now, i realized that my fish tank that has bugs that fly and breed in my fish tank....ad the worms that are in my fish tank are breeding at my filter sponge. Please tell me what flying bug is that and how to get rid of it.

Answer
Brian,   Sounds like you need some netting over that tank or a complete hood. The hood would be better because they will have the lighting they need. You definitely need a bigger tank soon so you might think of getting a complete set up with hood, filter , and heater (which you won't need). I don't know what insect it is but, it is obviously laying larvae in your tank. This is a parasite. There is no other way to get rid of them without a parasitic of some kind. Again I would use coppersafe the way I told you in the previous answer.Go to the pet shop it should be common there too. Brian medicate your tank asap and make sure you can keep these insects away from your water. Good Luck, Tina
