QuestionMy husband and I are moving from Iowa to Texas. We have two fish tanks with mostly cichlids including a 5-6 inch Flower Horn cichlid, two jack dempseys, a 5-6 inch texas cichlid. There are several others that are smaller as well. The ones I named are the big ones. I'm looking for any suggestions on how to move these fish without as little stress and hopefully no deaths if possible. The drive will be approximately 16 hours (according to Mapquest). Complicating matters is that we have two small children (2 years old and 2 months old), so we will have to make numerous stops along the way. Would it be better to have someone ship them to us overnight once we have reached Texas and gotten the fish tank set up? Any suggestions you have for this move would be welcome.
AnswerHi Kendra,
I've done similar trips and I just put the fish in buckets or a cooler and drive them. You can get little "bait box bubbler" air pumps that run on 2 D cells at most fishing stores and some pet stores. A little bubbling every few hours should do the trick. Put some plastic plants in the buckets/cooler but don't put in any rocks or other potentially sharp objects that might shift around.
