Angelfish Dying

Question
Hi Ron,
I am from India.I have a community tank of 20 gallons with goldfish, catfish all medium size. I am unable to keep my anglefish alive beyond 2 weeks. I have a heater set at 78F and filter. I feed pellets. I have aqua plants.
Just before the fish die they go to the bottom of the tank and stay in one place. After sometime they float around in the filters' current and die.
Pls help. I really like angelfish.

Thanks,
Ajit

Answer
Hi Ajit,
Hmm... that is peculiar.  There are several possibilities here: it could be the angelfish are sick to begin with (which is not uncommon); it could be that the water in the tank is for some reason killing them, or it could be that the current inhabitants, i.e., the goldfish, are killing them.

I suggest you put a new angelfish in a protective net basket in the tank to see if survives without the possibility of one of the existing fish harming it.
