Question
QUESTION: Hi,
i have set up an aquarium with plants and glofish. i would like to add a black light in addition to my current light, but i haver herd that this is harmful to my good bacteria and algae and plants. is this true? would anything good in my tank be harmed?

thanks,
mike

ANSWER: a black light?

or back light?

ive never heard of a black light, but if you have no light it can be harmful yes, your fish need a day and night cycle as well as the plants e.c.t, the plants wont grow and will die and your good bacteria and fish will suffer too.

but otherwise sorry i dont know what a blacklight is

QUESTION: HI,

a black light is a special light, the light looks more purple. im sure you know what they are, they use them in tv shows like csi to make blood show up. they make things look alot more bright/colorful and make glofish glow. they produce an ultraviolet light, but little visible light and i was wondering if this along with a regular light would be ok. if you still dont know what a black light is, if you Google or Wikipedia it, they may be able to clarify better than i can. i herd that they can kill algae and some bacteria, and i don't want to upset my nitrogen cycle

thanks
mike

Answer
ooooooooo ok, yeah i use one of them and algea still grows but just at a slower rate, which makes it easier for my cleaner fish to eat it...
