Question
QUESTION: Hello,

We will be moving soon and we will be driving for 2 days. Please advise the best way to move our oscar. I was thinking I would use a rubbermaid container with about half filled with the water from their tank. I was also thinking of using a a power inverter and running a small air pump.
Do you thing that will be good?

Thank you in advance.... your advice is very appreciated.
Ken

ANSWER: Hi Ken,
That sounds like an excellent plan.  The air pump is not 100% necessary, but would be a really
good idea if you can do it.  You are better to have less water in the tub than more, i.e., I would fill it only a third full and be sure to have the lid on so he doesn't jump out.  The thing to pay the most attention to is that the water in the tub doesn't heat up too much (and hence have less
oxygen -- it is lack of oxygen that is the biggest challenge to a fish in transit).

QUESTION: Hi Ron,

Thank you very much for your quick reply. You wouldnt know what kind of timeline we have to get them back in a tank? The drive will take about 2 days. I was just concerned that if we had a delay of some kind they may be at risk. If they can stay in the rubbermaid for up to 4 days that would be perfect .... i expect to have them back in a tank within 2 - 3 days but just wanted to know our window.

Thanks again,
Ken

Answer
Hi Ken,
They can stay in the rubbermaid tub for weeks if need be.  It is really just an ugly aquarium as far as they are concerned, i.e., it will bother you more than it will bother them.
