why does my female betta fish blows bubbles?Is she happy or getting ready for nesting?

Hi Seleste,

Female Bettas, and male Bettas, both, are air-breathers.  They belong to a group of fishes called Labyrinth fishes.  Gouramis and Bettas and paradise fishes all belong to this group of fish.  They breathe in tank water, just like normal fish, but they also breathe air gumps.  They have specialized systems so that this helps them to absorb oxygen.

Male and female Bettas also do build bubble-nests.  The nest will look like foam in the bathtub.
