Question
Last week I bought 2 additional budgies to keep the 2 I already have company.  I got them from a large chain pet store, netted from a "bin 'o budgies" so I assumed that they would not be hand friendly.  Much to my surprise, one of them is not shy towards hands and I can hold him, take him out, feed him, pet him, etc.  I'm wondering if this friendly behavior will last and if taking him out every day will keep him from becoming wild (since he lives in the same cage with 3 other budgies).  Also I'm wondering if this can model friendly behavior with the other 3.  I have another budgie that I can sometimes take out (with some difficulty) and hold, as long as my friendly one is on my hand too.  Thanks!

Answer
Hello Celine! Sounds like a handful! *laughs* If you continue to hold your tame budgie every day, then you two will have a great bond. Even one day can make a difference so dont skip a day where you dont handle him. As long as you treat him like a companion then he will stay friendly. The other 3 birds you have wont really pick up the good behavoir. They have to trust you before they will allow you to even handle them. all keets are differnt as you can see with your tame one and the wild ones. But talk to them every day, feed them treats, and soon enough they may take something tasty from your hand. Millet spray is a good treat to feed a nervous budgie. keep up the good work!
