taming a cockatiel

Hi,
You already answered a question about my cockatiel Jack. It was really helpful, I think I might get him a companion now. My question is, how would you suggest I go about taming him? I have tried talking to him soothingly, wrapping him in a towel, and taking him into a small space, I have failed misrably at all of them. He was in a sort of abusive home before I got him and seems mentally scarred. He is I-don't-know-how-old and never comes out of his cage. I would really like to be able to hold him, or at least have him trust me, thanks for your answer.

Hello Emily,

Other then what I've already said there isnt much you can do, you can try the treats through the bars and daily interaction(ie. talking to him), getting him a firned will be great, I reccomend another male thou unless you want unexpected eggs... and some tiels have even been able to hatch them on the cage floor!
