Cockatiel wood eating

Question
My Mom has a male cockatiel and they have to cover anything wood when they let him out of his cage.  He has ruined wood frames, tables, ect.  Is there a way to get him to stop without just keeping him in the cage?  They provide wood items for him to chew in his cage.

Answer
Hello Karen.  Thank you for your post.
Cockatiels are natural chewers.  Try offering him some wood blocks when he is out of his cage.
If see him chewing on something that he shouldn't be chewing on, take him away from that item and take him to where some wood blocks are to let him know that those are ok to chew on.  It's going to take a lot of repetition, but it'll work over some time.

Good luck and God Bless.
