mixing with full size horses

Question
Hi a friend wants to give us a mini horse when its weaned. I plan to give it its own enclosure but what do you think about it mingling with our two full size horses in the pasture?

Answer
I think  mixing them is fine depending on the larger horses temperment. I have mixed minis with larger ponies and full sized arabs. I do know that you have a bit of a wait until the mini is old enough to deal with a full sized horse. As with any other equine they are very social so if you only have the one horse and the one mini they should do well once the baby is older. I would probably wait until that youngster is at least a yearling. I know some horses have been known to attack minis and have heard of them actually injuring badly or actually killing them but I have not had problems with that before. As I said I think it depends on the temperment of the big horse to begin with. Good luck and enjoy that mini! They are so much fun. Melissa
