Question
Hi!  I have an opportunity to purchase a mini and I have a few ?'s.  First of all how old do they have to be before you can break them to ride?  I have horses now but they are quarters.  So I am not sure of the differences between them.  I want to get the mini for my 2 yr old daughter.  She will be the one to ride it.  Also how is their temperament?  Any info would be greatly appreciated!
Thanks,
Stacy

Answer
I thought I had answered this but it shows pending so here goes again. Minis are not known for being riding animals but are great for driving. A larger B size can carry a 65 pound child or so but the smaller ones are not meant to carry weight. The minis are just like the big horses in their care except they are very smart like ponies and tend to take advantage of a child. The temperment is usually what they have been brought up to be like. Mine are all sweet affectionate animals but they have been handled with a lot of love and they are that way themselves. The care difference with these guys is the potential for weight gain and foundering like ponies. A 2 year old shouldn't have much problems riding one but would be for a short period of time. I think a ponie is a better bet if you want her to be able to ride it for a few years.
