Question
Hello! I am joining a saddle club and my friend shows her horses there and she said that i should join and do some showmenship with my mini. I dont really know how it all works, how to square them up, clip them, or pivet there feet. Also, what are some exercises that I should be doing with my mini Starr Babi at night to get her ready for the shows?

THNAKS--Karli

Answer
First off how to clip a mini can be done in many ways.  SOmetimes the show rules may have guidlines to how it should be done.  You can a full body clip to just trmming there whiskers, ears, and feathers.  If you went on the google images you can find some examples.  To square a horse you might at first have to stand the horse still and then lead them forward and backwards until they are square, once they begin to learn what to do you will be able to just point or touch the horses leg and they will square themselves up.  If you want to pivot the horses feet the trick is pressure and release.  Begin by pushing with bone (hardest) then when they improve push muscle, then skin, and the eeventually air (lightest). Some exercises I would recommend would be setting up cones and walking and whoaing and doing firgure eights.  Also practice getting him/her square.  Practice holding the lead correctly (like a serving tray) and maybe have someone come pretend to judge you.  Hope this helps!
