weight control when sharing corrals?

Question
Hi There! I lease a full size horse who was having some anxiety issues. We found a mini she got along great with, and they have been happily sharing a corral for about 6 months. The problem now is the mini is getting too much feed. Looking for ideas other than splitting them up. THe best idea I can come up with is a mounted feeder - mounted above the mini's reach. Before I spend the big bucks for the feeder I think is ideal, do you have any other ideas? Is this a common problem?? Google doesn't have any good results for me thus far. Thanks! Caroline

Answer
Hi Caroline-
I always separate my horses while they are eating in a stall or another paddock. A friend of mine ties hers, just while they have their grain. It sounds as though your idea with the higher feeder would work, too. Minis don't need much grain, particularly if you have good hay or forage. Hope this helps. Best, Toni
