arena jumping

Question
I've had my mare for about a year and a half now.  She has been an amazing, and difficult experience. When I got her all she was was a western backyard horse. I have converted her to english and have started jumping.  When we jump cross country she is amazing. She loves the jumps! I'll take her into a round pen and lunge her over jumps and she does fine.  I will ride her over them, and she is OK.  Sometimes she'll refuse them.  The moment we are in the arena, she will not jump.  (Every now and again, when i CONSISTENTLY take her to them, I will get a jump out of her), but she always veers around them. What should I do?
Jenny

Answer
Jenny try setting up at first a cross rail with a ground pole off to the side so that if she tries to run out she has to hop the ground poll.  As you approach the jump try indirect rein  and open rein on the other side backed up with a closed leg.  Exaggerate initially.  As she gets confident with that, then setup a three part low gymnastics all of equal height and ground poles chuting her forward.  Keep it simple and direct so her anxiety doesn't get the best of her!
