Question
Hi! I bought and 11 yr old TW gelding and he has been ridden on a high port snaffle, but it seems like too much bit for him...throws is head a little and is always pulling like he is fighting the bit.  He responds well with just a doesnt't seem right.  I have tried him on a special snaffle bit with ball bearing on each side and he does better.  I can ride him bareback with just a halter and rope and he responds well with just pressure.  What type of bit can I use that will be gentle on his mouth, but still have control?

Answer
Hi Deneen,

Try a hackamore (bitless) no pressure on his mouth and still have control.  ONLY try this option if you are an experienced rider.

Otherwise there are numerous options for him, get an experienced saddlery retailer to come out to the barn and try a few bits with you and him....sometimes just a change in bit thickness will be the answer.

Hope this has helped
