Question
horse keeping face to a side
horse keeping face to
hello ma'am, look at this horse, this horse is galloping straight on 1 foot sand at a local racetrack. its body position is straight, but why it is keeping its head to a side, i have observed most of the exercise riders and jockeys while riding in the workouts. their mounts keep their head to a side like this in the photo. may i know why? is the horse itself keeping its head to a side or the rider is making the horse keep its face to a side?

Answer
Hello Rohit,

It is almost certainly caused by the rider pulling on the left rein and the horse is turning it's head in that direction.
If you were riding a schooled riding horse, you would want the entire horse to bend as you asked it to change direction, but at high speeds and on a straight track it is desirable for the horse not to loose momentum, and to keep its body straight.

The aids on a race horse tend to be very direct, without a lot of finesse. The main objective is controlled speed.
