Question
horse pushing the bit down with its tongue
horse pushing the bit
hello ma'am, this is the lower jaw structure of a horse. we can see the lower incisors, canines. sorry i didnt draw premolars. we can also see loose ring snaffle in silver color. actually, i sketched it with silver to indicate that it is stainless steel snaffle. i also drew tongue of the horse which is over the bit mouthpiece. i mean to indicate that the horse is putting its tongue over the bit as if pushing it down.

now my question is:
is the horse trying to lean on the bit or trying to evade the bit? can you please answer in detail what is the horse doing to the bit?

Answer
Horses are very often in pain and discomfort from bits. Bits lie on a horse's tongue, and also rest on the very tender and soft bars of a horse's mouth. Horses also develop bone spurs
on their bars from the continued use of steel in their mouth.

Horses will try to evade this pain by different ways.......they will open their mouths, put their tongue over the bit, raise their heads, put their heads to their chests, etc.

Instead of their owners or trainers figuring out how to relieve them of this pain, they will put tight nosebands on them, use draw reins, martingales, etc., hiding the problem but not fixing it.

You should look up Dr. Cooks Bitless Bridle on the internet. It will give you more information about the misuse of bits.
