Yearling Stud Colt

Question
I have been around horses a number of years, barrel raced all my life and in general was always around a horse.
I bought a perlino AQHA stud colt last August, He is a incredibly well bred and well minded young horse. Never bit or kicked or got out of line with me, cause he knows better. Was imprinted at birth by his breeder. His background is full of well bred, well minded horses.
I dont have a serious problem, its just I am asking for advice. So recently I toke him off pasture and he is doing great with me and training. however he always pawed when he was tied up but now whenever he sees a horse (doesnt have to be a mare) he paces his pen, whinnies and paws. I dont know if this is because he is lonely or feeling his 'studiness' yet. I want him to grow up to be a well mannered horse if he dont well I will cut him cause its just not worth getting hurt or worse someone else hurt.
So if this preventable? should he be let out with horses to learn how to behave with them? or is it still just 'youngster loneliness'?

Answer
Hi Katy,
I am a firm believer that horses should be out with other horses, so I would try to find a few young guys to put your colt out with. The more he can be a horse with other horses the easier everything else will be for you when you are working with him- you wont be his only outlet. If you are not planning on keeping him a stallion I would geld him and have him out with the herd as much as possible. Just make sure that when you work with him you are working toward building a relationship where you are the leader of your little herd of two. Let me know how things go for him.
