Question
Hello, I am looking into getting my first horse which has been a lifelong dream.Iam very close to being ready, just need to get the barn up.I have been doing years of research on horses of every breed and found I would like a draft style horse (clyde,Belgian,Perchron).I have also been looking in the classifieds and into rescues.I think a rescue is the way I'm leaning towards. My question is I am looking into a 17 year old Clydesdale gelding. He is trained for driving but not riding. How difficult is it to train a horse to ride? Plus could this be done by a novice like myself?I am willing to hire a trainer but just thought it would be awesome to bond with my horse like this. What is your suggestion? Thanks

Answer
I would recommend getting a trainer to break this horse to saddle because of his age and the fact that he has not been under saddle. You can bond with him by doing ground training, grooming him,  getting him used to a saddle and a bridle but for the actual riding part, it would be better to have the trainer do it.
