YOUNG ARAB FILLY WHO IS JUST PLAIN NASTY

Question
HI I HAVE JUST BOUGHT AN ARAB FILLY WHO IS 6 MONTHS OLD AND SHE IS A NIGHTMARE.
SHE LUNGES AT ME WITH HER EARS BACK AND HER TEETH SHE HAS CONNECTED A FEW TIMES AND SHE ALSO TURNS HER BACK END ON ME AND SHE HAS ALSO KICKED ME.
SHE IS HALTER TRAINED BUT THAT IS ABOUT IT.
SHE DOESN'T LIKE ME IN HER STABLE AND SHE IS BEGINNING TO SCARE ME. I HAVE ALWAYS HAD HORSES BUT THIS IS MY FIRST FOAL AND I AM COMPLETLY GREEN ON HOW TO HANDLE HER.
SHE DOESN'T SEEM TO HAVE ANY SOCIAL SKILLS AT ALL AND HER MANNERS ARE NON EXISTANT.
I BOUGHT HER BECAUSE I HAD A BAD EXPERIENCE WITH AN OLDER HORSE THAT HAD LAMINITIS AND HE HAD TO BE PUT TO SLEEP, SO MY THINKING WAS THAT IF I GOT A FOAL THEN AT LEAST I WASN'T BUYING SOMEONE ELSES PROBLEMS.
HOW WRONG COULD I BE, I SEEM TO OF BOUGHT MORE TROUBLE THAN I CAN HANDLE AT THE MOMENT.
PLEASE ADVISE ME AS ANY HELP WILL BE APPRICIATED.
KIND REGARDS
STEPH

Answer
Hi Steph,

Sorry for the delay in answering you. I've mulled this one over quite a bit and I feel that your best bet is to take her to a professional trainer.  At this point, her behaviors are so severe that she could easily be a dangerous horse.  The longer she's allowed to get away with nasty behaviors, the more potentially dangerous she becomes.  A professional trainer can take her for a few weeks and stop some of the "uglies" going on right now.  Look for a trainer who will deal with her first, then will train you on how to keep up what's been started.  There is no such thing as a "cure" for bad behavior - there is always a possibility it can come back if a person is not consistent with enforcing the behavior rules with her.

The first and foremost concern is your safety, and it sounds like she may be a trheat to that at this point.  This is one instance where I don't really feel confident in giving you advice over the internet, but would recommend  that you have someone who can deal with her directly.

I hope this helps you - I wish there were some simple and quick thing I could tell you to do.  But in the case of a really nasty horse with no ground manners, professional help is your best bet.
