lump on hind leg, front of canon bone

Question
I have a horse who I treated for an infection in his hind leg about a year ago.  The infection subsided, and as I sweated the leg to get the swelling out, he developed a bump on the front middle of his canon bone.  It still has not gone away.  It's hard, not attached to the bone (I can kind of move it around) and not sore to the touch.  He's not lame on the leg.  Do you know what it is and if it will ever go away?  Or maybe how I could get it to go away.  I can take a picture if that would help.  thanks!

this bump will not affect him. chances are this is a periosteal reaction from the infection and injury. It might get smaller over time, but could take a tremendous amount of time to do so. If you are curious about it, i suggest having it xrayed. It is also possible that it is just a knot of scar tissue left over from the injury- that might be more likely to be the case if it is truly moveable as a periosteal reaction would be attached to the bone. If it is a knot of residual collagenous scar tissue, i doubt that if will ever go away completely and it may not change much in size any longer either. It will not affect his soundness. i hope this helps some. Its merely a cosmetic blemish now. Good luck to you and let me know if I can help you any further.
