Navicular Changes

Question
Recently I purchased an eight year old Thoroughbred who was never raced, I was looking for a horse to take through towards higher level jumping and Dressage. However, things got complicated. I found out that the owners had too many horses and the cost of showing was taking a toll, he's had some very well known trainers working with him, no jumping experience, we clicked immediently, and was incredibly nice and I was getting him dirt cheap due to the circumstances.  We had a very thorough vet-check done, everything checked out fine, we were only awaiting the results of his navicular area and hock x-rays.

It turns out that although he didn't have navicular, there were changes in the area, enlarged blood vessals(lollipops?) rating a category five out of ten. The vet said that if I wanted to do some intense jumping, this horse wasn't for me. I decided to keep him(something I don't regret)and turn him into a hunter and Dressage horse.

Do you think that he'd be able to do lower level jumping, particularly hunters where more time is spent on the flat than the jumps, without inducing anymore navicular problems? Or should I completely forget jumping him? I haven't jumped him at all, of course, but I'd like him to be worked to his fullest potential and know his limits.

Answer
CONSULT WITH YOUR BLACKSMITH (I HOPE YOU HAVE A GOOD ONE)

PROPER SHOEING SHOULD TAKE THE PRESSURE OFF AND ALLOW YOU TO DO WHAT YOU WANT. START OUT WITH LOWER LEVEL JUMPING, AND IF HE DOES NOT SHOW SIGNS OF STRESS, YOU MAY BE ABLE TO ADVANCE TO MORE.

PUTTING HIM ON VAXAMINE EQ (LOOK IT UP ON GOOGLE) MIGHT HELP A LOT
