Navicular

Question
Hi, I have a 13 yr. old mare, and I notice 2 years ago she started limping. It gradually increased over the years to what it is now. We're all pretty sure it's navicular since were surrounded by a few other horses with the same problem. It has become awful and I've tried bute, which doesn't seem to help much. I had a vet come out, and I waisted my money, because all he did was inject her hocks when it was her fronts that hurt her in the first place. It has become hard for me to watch her now. She has become lame all around, and struggles when walking down hills. We've tried egg bar shoes, and they didn't help. I tried a supplement called naviculasaver, didn't help. People have suggested nerving her, but i'm afraid of the consequences. I can't watch her walk anymore, it hurts me too much. Is there anything I can do? PLEASE! I really need advice.

Thankyou so much,
Anne

Answer
Hi Anne.
I was thinking about your mare last night. Hope the Anti-flam is helping. Anyway, this is a variation of the flip flop shoe I was telling you about.

(CEMTGCFLAP)  FLAPPERS
The Flapper takes a half shoe fitted into the recess in front of the heel portion of the pad. This results in the dispersal of pressure and concussive force on the horse's heel area. The frog and bars are designed to have "passive" ground contact and are supporting structures. The Flapper is useful in treating: a) general bone and joint soreness, b) weak or contracted heels, c) navicular syndrome, d) ringbone, e) sidebone, f) quarter or heel cracks. Available in sizes 1-5. Eligible for volume discounts (1-10 pair $11.75/pr; 10 pair $10.25/pr; 20+ pair $9.50/pr).

Looks like the picture isn't going to show up:( You can see it at www.grandcircuitinc.com and it's listed under pads.

Let me know how your friend makes out!
