QuestionThis might sound dumb but my mom has a horse that is pregnant and i wanted to know how long after the mother gives birth to her colt can the mother be rode????
AnswerHi - good question! If the mare is in good physical shape, and has been ridden routinely throughout the pregnancy, light riding a week or two after the foal is born should be ok. If the mare has NOT been in any type of work, I would wait longer, and of course work the horse into shape slowly.
If in doubt, ask your vet - he/she should be able to give you the 'ok' to start riding after the foal is born.
