PLEASE HELP !! How can I walk 2 minis together?

Question
Hi, since I can't ride my miniature horses I would like to take them for a walk.  Walking would be good exercise for me and my minis.  Keeping one behind does not work as they are very close and when one goes the other always follows.
It also helps getting them used to
people and traffic and ready for the parade.  I have been doing alot ot thinking and studying how I can walk 2 minis at the same time without them getting tangled or twisted up
or even nipping at eachother. One in each hand and me in the middle would
not work.  I would like to tie them together if possible so one would be
walking behind the other or with eachother, but I'm afraid they would nipp
at eachother or get their feed tangled up somehow if we stop and I let them
graze a little.  Is there something for horses?  I find nothing online,
looked over the hole net.  Does anyone have any idea?   Thanks.
Sincerely
Heidi

Answer
Hi Heidi;

You're focussing on the final product.  You need to back up a little bit and start with the first criteria.

#1  Both minis need to actually 'like' each other and not want to fight.  If that's not what you have, then it's an uphill battle because you'll always be referring their fights.

#2  Both minis need to be EXCELLANT SOLO leaders.  They each need to be able to follow you anywhere, anytime, into any situation, including water, around traffic, over and through obstacles, into any kind of trailer,  over any type of ground etc...  And do it willingly without needing coaxing.

#3  You need to decide which way you want them to walk.  Typically, it's done side by side.

#4  You need to come up with a type of lead that connects both horses to one lead that you then hold.  There isn't one on the market that I know of, but I have seen Andalusisans and Lipizzaners led in packs of 5/6 side by side as that is typical in their native countries.

#5  You can't mix 'business with pleasure'.  So, either lead them or don't.  No stopping for grazing.

The best 'leading' book I've seen is Klaus Ferdinand Hempflings, 'Dancing With Horses'.  That's where I'd start if you've got the #1 criteria.

Best wishes!

Lana Reinhardt
