Question
I went camping with my horse she was tacked up  in the fenced in area, while I waiting for a friend to finish tacking up , my horse droped her head to go under the fence when she went under the fence the horn of the saddle caught the fencing she tore up all the electric tape and pulled out the stepping post and dragged all this through the camp site, she fell when she hit the pavement(road rash) there was a injury to her back leg, it all most looks like a puntcure wound the size of a quarter it seemed to be deep. cleaned it up and keeped it rapped because of flys  its been about a month and a half there is no drainage, its not hot to touch seems to be doing well not lame at all, how ever its swollen right where the wound is AND ONLY WHERE THE WOUND IS SHE IS NOT LAME AT ALL SHOULD i CALL A VET IF THERE IS NO SIGH OF INFECTION

Answer
Hey Tina - your camping trip sounds like it got pretty wild!  It is great to hear that your mare is sound though.  I'd love to see what the wound looks like now.  The swelling you are describing could be scar tissue or it could be proud flesh but I'd have to see it to know for sure.  Can you get a picture of it?

I would call your vet if your mare became lame, started to have a discharge or began to run a temperature above 102.  Sometimes it's nice just to have a vet tell us that everything is fine so it's really up to you.  Sounds like you did a nice job of taking care of this injury Tina :)
