Question
QUESTION: Dear Anne,

Thank you for taking time to answer my question.

In flat racing when you view the patrol film some horses knees are facing in opposite ways. For example : the right knee faces right and its hoof landing towards the middle line of the stomach. While the left knee is facing left and its hoof lands towards the middle line. How would you shoe them assuming from the knees downward are clean and correct? Do you consider to shoe both hooves as toe in horse?

Please let me know.

Thanks a lot,

Regards,

Raymond

ANSWER: Hi Raymond.
It sounds like your horse is toeing out. Is your horse interfering at all? Let me know and I should have some suggestions for you. (Also, what kind of work is the horse doing? I assume the horse is racing?)

QUESTION: Hi Anne,

It is a thoroughbred and does not interfere. I am not sure I expressed right. One knee is facing east and the other knee is facing west.

Should one shoe it as a toe out or toe in horse?

Thank you for your kind attention,

Best Regards,

Raymond

Answer
Raymond,
If the horse's knees are facing opposite directions, I would say your horse is toeing out. Since he isn't interfering anywhere, I don't think I'd change a thing! I'd keep him just the way you have him, and keep him on a regular schedule to be trimmed and shod.
  Best of luck!
