Clydesdale as a first horse

Question
I am looking into purchasing a 2 year old Clydesdale gelding as my first horse.  I am 52 years old, 6 foot 225 lbs and have the finances to afford a horse.  I have 1.25 acres with 12 miles of association maintained Bridle Paths to ride on here in northern Nevada.  My question is if this is a desaster waiting to happen?  I have heard that Draft/Cold Blood horses make gental riders.  I met the horse at a breeders place up the road and the horse was real gental, but not yet ridden or handled much.  What is your advice?  I have a lot of experience with Great Dane type dogs and am not frightened by size or aggression.  Thanks, Joe

Answer
hi joe, clydsdales are great horses, they are very calm and gentlr horses. being that this is your first horse please do not get this one. a 2yr old horse that isnt trained yet will just make a bad experience. i would advise you to get an older clydsdale that is already trained. if you get this young horse you will have to wait another year, send it to a trainer and have a green horse that is unpredictable and inexperienced. or you can try to train it yourself and end up with problems. the best way to go is buy one that is already trained and is alittle older around 8-13 years old. that way you can enjoy your new friend right away with no problems. it will also be less costly in the end and you will have less problems. good luck
