Answer
Issaac:

what you need is to be present for the foaling and it should take place within 45 min to 1 hour once the mare goes into labor. The only other thing you need is an emergency vet to contact if the foaling is delayed or prolonged and if there are complications with the foal or the mare. the placenta should be passed within 4 hours of the foaling- if not call a vet. the foal shoudlo stand and nurse within 2 hours of the birth- if not call a vet. if you are uncertain of anything- call a vet. Any bproblems with the mare and foal during or immediately after birth are beyond your scope of intervention. do not attempt to do it yourself of or you will be unhappy with the results. Get a vet set up BEFORE the foaling. My best to you and your mare, good luck with the foaling. Most go without a hitch at all. Feel free to contact me again if you need to.
