Proper Turnout For Dressage Show

Question
Hi Liia, I am a 43 year old woman who has just purchased my first horse this past May. My trainer feels that my mare carries her self naturally in a Hunter Frame and should be shown that way this coming Spring & Summer. I agree with him but would also like to try Dressage Shows. I  currently ride in Hunt Seat tack. Oakbark colored HDR close contact saddle, plain raised bridle to match. I understand that any english saddle can be used in the lower levels ( except a Park Saddle) But... will I really stand out like sore thumb if I don't use traditional black tack & Dressage Saddle? What do you think of the Wintec line of Synthetic Saddles? Thank You!

Answer
Hi Anne,

It is fine to use your hunt tack at the lower levels. Especially if you are doing schooling shows. It would be nice if you could wear white breeches with a dark jacket if you have one. Remember you have to read the rules. You have to use a snaffle bit etc. There is a possibility, depending where you live, that you might get some riders looking down their nose at you. Ignore them. you probably ride better than they do!

I have to admit I did not think wintec supported the rider well at one time, but they seem much improved. I have not used one of the newer ones long enough to have formed an opinion. I ccertainly would just stick with my hunt tack for lower level dressage...and if the bug gets you, upgrade then!

Best,

Liia
