Question
well i have 2 horses. one of them is a young girl horse. and the other one is a gelding. but when i take my girl horse out of the pen my gelding just starts going crazy. he runs around the pen as fast as he can, he rears up, and...well he just goes crazy and gets all sweaty. and im am planning on selling the girl horse and i need to find a way to where i wont break his heart when she is gone. i dont know if this has anything to do with this but the gelding is a mustang and he was caught in the wild with other horses. and i am also planning on getting another horse....i dont know if that will make him feel better. but anyway we only have one horse pen so we cant separate them. please help!!!

Answer
hi Meghan,
this is normal. your gelding is herd bound. since he was a wild horse he is used to being with other horses for protection. being by himself makes him feel vulnerable. theres really nothing you can do.once you sell your mare he will be restless for a few days but he will settle in and calm down. introducing your new horse will be easy. just let them get used to eachother and figure out whos boss and everything will be fine. so dont worry, its just a natural thing for horses to not want to be alone.
