why they kill horses when they get injured

Hello hgrvl,

They don't always kill injured horses. It very much depends on the type of injury, the prognosis for recovery and the suffering of the horse.  It also depends on the amount of money it will require to heal the horse and if the owner possesses the necessary funds.

Note that the Kentucky Derby winner was injured in the next race and they are still trying to save his life.  Money is no issue but if the horse were suffering a lot, chances are that he would be put down.
