Question
Hello:

I have a strange question for you that maybe you can help me with.  I am trying to do a crossword puzzle and one of the clues is ..."Traveler could be stopped by noisy cattle being herded on train or trail.  I have searched the internet but couldn't really come up with anything.  With your knowledge of horses, what would your guess be?  Do cattle get herded on trails or trains?

Thanks,

Paul

Answer
Congratulations Paul!

That is by far the strangest question I've been asked on this forum.  :-)

I enjoy word games and such, but I'm as stumped as you.  How many letters do we have?  Any letters already determined by other words?  Are we looking for the word for 'the traveler'?

There still are cowboys/wranglers that herd cattle and brand them and such.  I'm not sure how often trains are used nowadays to transport cattle.  I think a good majority is done by truck.

There is something called a cattle guard which is actually a 'grate' that is placed over a ditch and cattle won't cross it as the grating is too wide to permit them to walk on it.  It's used as a way to keep cattle 'in'.

Sorry, I haven't been much help.  Crossword puzzle makers are very tricky with their wording.

Good luck solving this one!

Sincerely,

Lana Reinhardt
