introducing my horse

Question
Next week i will be trailering my horse (3 year old gelding) to my bestfriends house for a week and a half... hopefully he will be staying with her two horses (3 year old gelding and a 14 year old mare) and i am just wondering what is the best way to do this because we are also planning on taking them trail riding without dealing with hatrid-issues. i also don't want my horse to get hurt by her horses so i am just wondering how we can go about this when they are only staying together for a week and a half.
Thanks

Answer
Hi Jessica;

Ideally, he should be kept separate from the herd...adjoining paddocks with a run between would be the very best so they can see each other, but can't fight over the fenceline.

If it was just one horse you were introducing him to then you would have a better chance of putting them together right away and everything being okay, but you'd be putting him into an already established herd, which puts him at a distinct disadvantage.

Good luck and best wishes!

Sincerely,

Lana Reinhardt
