cleansing

How often would you reccomend to have my gelding's sheath cleaned? I'm a new owner and don't know much right now.

Hi Gary,

It is recommended that this be done once a year. I like to have it done when the my horses teeth get floated, this way the horse is already relaxed and sleepy and you can avoid any potential for injury both to the horse and yourself.
I don't recommend trying to clean it yourself if you are a new horse owner as some horses don't take kindly to it. It is best left in the hands of a skilled veterinarian. Especially if the horse has never had this done. If after some time you feel comfortable trying this yourself, have your vet present the first time so he can show you how.
