Question
Can you please tell me the best way to try and sale a horse-I have a horse out of just to impress and she is about 6 years old-we havent done anything with her- I just need to sell her because of health reasons-can you or someone advise

Answer
Dear Debra:
A great deal depends on what you think a reasonable price is going to be for your horse. At six - with "nothing done" she has missed all of her junior horse opportunities or any futurities she may have been elligible for. You don't discuss what (if any) training she has had and this too will, of course have a great affect on her price. Let's assume she has no formal (professional) under saddle training and no showing experience. If so, you are basically looking at selling her as a pleasure horse or as a brood mare.
Since Just to Impress is an Impressive son- you don't state if your mare is HYPP negative - this will have a huge bearing on her viability as a brood mare.
Also- there is, of course supply and demand. Geograpghy and the availability of her lines will affect her price as of course will her conformation and temperament.
Once you have determined a reasonable price, I would begin with local equine magazines- they charge a niminal fee for a photo ad but will directly access the equine community in your area. There are, of course many on line classifieds many of which are free but then you are possibly the victim of scam artists (never ever accept even a  so called "cashier's cheque") and you don't know where your horse will ultimately end up. You can also contact a broker or a trainer in your area who will market your horse for a commission.
Bst of luck - alsways ask for written references from a buyer - I usually ask for one from their equine vet.
Sincerely,
S. Evans
