In ag class, my teacher asked why do they measure horses in hand terms. Please it's for extra credit. I tried everywhere.

Hi!

Thanks for your question and I hope I can be of some help to you. Well, a hand is 4 inches. As I've been told, at one time 4 inches was the width of a farmers hand. If you look at your hand, or a hand of a older male, you should find that it is around 4 inches in width. This is just what I've been told. I have no source for this but it's what people have told me over the years. I hope that helps :) Let me know if your teacher says it's right.
