Is my horse pregnant?

Question
QUESTION: I brought home a new AQHA on July 31 of this year.  She had been a brood mare for years and has had 6 babies.  She is now 13 years old and has not had a baby for the last 3 years that we know of.  My gelding greeted her "happily" the day after she came home.  She immediately went into heat when she got here.  My gelding mounted her at least 2 times that I saw.  It looked as though he went through the whole process.  I asked my horse shoer if this was normal and he said he has boarded two geldings over the years that he later found out were studs due to either a third testicle that was not known about or other botched gelding process.  So now, my mare seems to have a "hay belly" look to her.  We can still feel her ribs but her belly is getting round and low.  Her teats seem to be a little swollen, but I never looked at them before so can't tell whether this is what they always looked like.  When we squeeze them we can express some fluid from them.  The fluid seems a little milky and oozy.  I don't know if this is normal for a past brood mare or if this could mean she is pregnant.  Could my gelding really be a stallion?
Thanks for your help.

ANSWER: Dear Tracie,
Sometimes geldings can be botched, but it is not as common as some people say it is. Although it is posible she may just be having a phantom pregnancy because she has been bred before her body is going through the stages even though she is not pregnant.
To be sure get a pregnancy test done on her, if she is pregnant get your gelding re-done or looked at. Remember some geldings will mount mares and actually do the whole buisiness.

---------- FOLLOW-UP ----------

QUESTION: Sorry to keep bothering you.  This is another follow-up question.  My daughter and I were out with our horse feeling her belly tonight.  I was on one side and she on the other.  Both having our hands on her flanks we could both feel the baby moving at the same times.  This seems like it must be a pretty big baby for both of us to feel it.  If she is pregnant and we are not imagining things, how far along would she have to be for both of us to be feeling baby on either side at the same time?
Thanks,
P.S. I did get an appointment with the vet to check her, but I am starting to worry she may have a baby before our appointment.
Thanks,

Tracie

Answer
Dear Tracie,
If she is that far along, you may need to watch her everynight, check up every few hours on her and make sure her stable is full of comfy bedding in case the foal does come, and it may be possible that she has twins, if is uncommon but does happen. A mare of ours has twins every year.
