Question
I chose you, sorry, because you had worked with racing horses.  I have a goat as a companion to my paint gelding. On the 14th he will be neutered and dehorned. Rather mean and aggressive now.  I need to know if there is any way to put a blanket on the horse without him chewing on it.  He has already chewed his tail clear up.  Please help me.

Answer
Well this is new to me.... ummmmmmm  :)

Not sure where you are, but I don't normally recommend putting a blanket on a horse.  It prevents them from growing a healthy coat, it causes them to sweat and get chilled, if they get wet the horse can freeze and I see too many people leave them on even if it warms up for a few hours.

So much my non blanket speech.  Your horse needs his tail for fly and insect protection.  I would make a red pepper paste, wear gloves, and rub it or mix with water and spray on tail of horse, the should help keep lips off it.  Be careful not to get on horse's private area so start off light and see if it works.  You should only need to do the end a few inches and not much higher.

I assume the goat and horse get along, you could get a grazing muzzle for goat so he can only eat grass, but that would be a pain and not fair to goat.

They make some bad tasting stuff to put on bandages so the horse will not lick it, I would bet they have same thing for goats.

sorry I could not be more help,

Rick
