Question
My horse tends to go very fast in showjumping and cross country and i was wondering if you could help me with a few tips which i could use . Thanks x

Answer
Hello Beth,

There are several things you can do, beginning with more dressage work to lighten his front and put him more on the hind.

You can also do gymnastic grids and combinations at the trot; then, take him x country schooling and ONLY TROT the fences. Horses that are well schooled can easily jump three feet from the trot, maybe higher.

More than that, NEVER allow him to jump anything--anywhere-- when he is not well in hand.  Remember that what you allow...you teach.

I suppose you bare already riding him xcountry in a pelham bit?

Happy riding,
Dorothy
