Question
We have had a horse about 2-3 months. She is about 2 1/2 years old and never messed with till we got her. She has had a lead rope on her for periods of time but for some reason is always scared of the rope. How do u get them past the scaredness of the rope? She is also head shy and im tryin to work on that. She is in a round pen at this time and has a halter on.

Answer
The best and easiest way to break a horse to lead is to put an old rope on them while they are in a safe round pen or stall and let them drag it around.  They will step on it and learn to that it isn't going to bite them and they will also learn to give to the preasure.  This is how I have started all of my little ones to "halter" break.  The head shyness will just take time.  Make sure you never strike her for ANYTHING around her head.  Every time you reach for her reach low as if you are reaching for her chin and grab the halter underneath instead of a cheek strap.

Hope this helps - Brenda
