oats!

Question
i have a thoroughbred x warmblood and he is good as gold. he is great to hack and even better at dressage but im having problems getting him to move in the menarge due to him being a tad lazy but i cannot have a crop or spurs on him. i was wondering if the night before i school him i could give him some oats to speed him up abit?if not what else could i try bearing in mind i live in the uk?

hi steff,
give him alittle bit of oats, and if your not already give him some alfalfa. im not sure of the rules in the UK for dressage but you might be able to give him equipoise. check with the officials first though. equipiose will boost his energy and its not a steriod. here in the U.S. we give it to our racehorses. if your not allowed to use equipiose just give him some hot feed such as oat, alfalfa, and corn works good too. just give him alittle though you dont want him to colic. good luck!
