QuestionWhat is the difference between Novice Hunter over Fences, Novice Hunter Under Saddle, Low Hunter Under Saddle, Low Hunter Over Fences and Open Hunter Under Saddle, Open Hunter over Fences? I am practicing for my stadium phase of eventing and would like to know more about Hunter Shows so I can register in the correct classes.
AnswerDear Stacy:
Since eventing is not my discipline and may have somewhat differnt criteria than the breed divisions in which I show I would recommend that you access the USEF or the EC web page rules section. These resources can offer you eventing specific details. Generally, "Novice" means a horse not having won more than three firsts in that division. "Under saddle" is a flat class (walk, trot, canter, hand gallop both directions and may be asked to rein back). Any over fences will require a short course with change of direction (high and low refering to fence height). Remember- in hunter it's all about form.
Best wishes,
