horses in front, far back

hello madam, may i know why few horses like to be
1)in the front, as if like a leader in the race
2)be in far back

and also madam, why few horses go nearly 5 to 6 horses wide during a race??? please explain me madam!!!

some horses like to be in the front because they are so competitive they want to lead and stay leading. some horses want to wait and stay in the back because they want to save their energy for the last stretch of the race. some horses like to go far wide because they are away front he other horses and they can do their own thing and they dont like to be crowded.
