settling a horse on outside

21 9:27:28

Question
hello madam, trainers generally instruct jockeys to settle his mount on the outside as soon as start is effected. how does a trainer get to know that that particular horse loves to gallop on the gallop, does a horse drag the rider on the outside when being worked in the morning???

Answer
when a trainer has a horse set on the outside this is because the horse is a closer. he wants the horse to save his energy for the last stretch of the race. being on the outside the horse will not be interfered with other horses and it will not wear its self out. some horses will go straight for the outside but generally the jockey moves him there.
