Question
I am looking to purchase a 3 yr. old thoroughbred for my
daughter, she has been riding him for 6 months in a green horse lesson.  We were told that he is going thru a major growing spurt, and needs some time off.  His croup is much higher than is withers...should I still consider buying him?  His farrier said to only lunge him and not work is hind end....does this sound right?

Answer
hi susan,
well it would depend on how old your daughter is. if she is young and 14 years or younger i would say no. he is green, thoroughbred are a hott breed and very sensitive. with his growth spure it could take until he is 4. i would say look for another horse. if she wants a thoroughbred i have one for sale that is5 years old that is very safe and calm. he is registered and rides english and western. having an older horse means having a more experience horse, and a more experienced horse means a safer horse. younger horses can change quickly and pick up bad habits such as bucking a rearing. i would really recommend an older horse for your daughter.
