what type of turtle is he?

Question
Hi, I just bought a turtle and I would like to find out what type he is. On his shell he has little circles like peacock feather eyes and he has a light orange stripe on each cheek. His shell is pretty flat and he likes to wade and swim in shallow water, rarely going onto dry land. Do you know what type of turtle he is? Thanks in advance,

Answer
With that information, I would guess that it is a young painted turtle (Chrysemys picta), but that is just a guess.

Try the 'Gallery' or 'common name index' parts of www.tortoise.org and see if anything there looks familiar! If not, try their 'links' section on aquatic turtles.

I AM guessing that it is a type called a pond turtle. Pond turtles (there are MANY species of these) are pretty aquatic, and not too hard to care for if you are willing to set up a good tank and find good food.
