Question
I brought my turtle to the vet -- she is not eating and she took blood tests etc..and called to say the turtle has an infection for which I am giving a general antibiotic but the vet wasn't sure what she has. Today I saw my turtle now has a really swollen neck -- that she did not have. She has not been eating for almost three weeks. The turtle is about eight years  old. The vet has suggested I take her in this week for an x ray but she is only there Wed. Meanwhile I read I should put the turtle in a pedilyte bath to help her keep hydrated? Is this a good idea? Any other ideas? Thank you.

Answer
Hello Bettina, sorry to hear about your turtle, I don't see how pedialite can help hyrdrate her if she is already in the water most of the time. It shouldn't hurt but call your vet if possible and see if she concludes that its a good idea. Another option is if it is an infection is to raise the temperatures. Raise the basking temperature 10F from the recommended temperatuer. Raise the water temperature 5 degrees F.

I am not sure whate else there is for you to do, I am not medically trained or have any experience in these situations. Try to contact your vet through phone or email. If you do not get a response try another vet. She/He doesn't have to be in your area but at least somebody you can email or talk on the phone too about what to do before you can get in and see the vet.

Again I am sorry to hear she isn't doing well and I hope she comes through healthy and happy.
Best of Luck,
Yexalen
