Annoying box turtle

My male eastern box is constantly mounting, nipping at, and chasing down my three towed docile female.  I've had both turtles about 18 years-this behavior started about two years ago. Is there any solution aside from keeping them separated?  Thanks.

This is a stress response, and might have been triggered by many things, including sheer age. A common stresser is crowding. Try putting them in a larger habitat, preferably outside if it is warm enough there.

The next thing to look at is overall care, housing, and diet. Try a good site like http://www.boxturtlesite.info for ideas on this front.

Unfortunately, if that does not help, separation (or finding a new home for one) is about all that is left.
